Poetry & Presence Lecture Series: Angeley “LaNegraSpeaks” Gibb

Join The American Poetry Museum for the launch of María Fernanda’s three-part lecture series celebrating poetic thought and the communities that shape it. Q&A to follow.

Sunday, December 14 at 5:00pm

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY with deep familial ties to Limon, Costa Rica, Angeley Crawford Gibb, centers her work on the intricacies of identity formation, reconciliation of Black and Brown people to themselves, and dismantling white supremacy in the lives of her students and others. Crawford’s work stems from her desire to bridge the gap of cultural and ethnic divides. A published writer, her pieces "No Hablo Español – Ah Don Speak Spanish” and “Speaking in Other Tongues,” found in the New Afrikan Journal of Culture, Politics, and Consciousness speak to the triple consciousness that can be found within the Afro-Latin, Caribbean and American communities that bore her.

Through acknowledging the complexity of history and culture, Crawford displays the luminosity of her heritage and uses it as an educational tool. She has created and participated in racial justice workshops such as the viral video series, Define: BLACK and Afro-Latina in America which explored ethnic and racial identity of Latinos in America. Currently, she is an Educator and Resource specialist in the DMV area with a concentration on the Afro-Latin Diaspora and diversity and inclusion in the classroom.
